Handcarters ~ Karnner

https://vimeo.com/channels/1memo/154186901
The Handcarters , the ‘Karnner’ , Tyrolean people living a nomadic life because of poverty, and sometimes political or religious persecution or curiosity, would pile their belongings and kids onto handcarts to hit the road to places were they supplied the population with goods and services, or worked for example as a knife sharpener, tinker, basket maker or broom binder.

This Tyrolean minority is not forgotten during the fifth season on ‘Foolish Thursday’ (“Unsinniger Donnerstag”) in Tirol , were the colorful “Igler Karrner” dressed up as old men and women pulling a cart – go out on the town in a cabaret-like show with characteristic masks, music and dancing in the small village of Igls, near Innsbruck in Tyrol (Austria). ~ Video : January 31, 2008 | Film : February 4, 2016 by Michel van der Burg | 1-memo.com

The City – Frappant

The City (“De Stad”) by the Frappant Solidarity Chorus (from Wilrijk, Belgium) on January 30, 2010 in Antwerp (Belgium) near the Cathedral of Our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwe-Kathedraal).

Film clip of the first two couplets of ”De stad” (words and music by the conductor Bob De Pooter) ~ It was freezing cold that saturday afternoon, and with only dead batteries left for my camera , I had to warm a battery in my hands to bring it back to life for a moment, and put it in the little camera , to be able to record part of their songs.

Here my translation of the 1st couplet of this Flemish text :

When the city will close its gate
with curtains for the windows
the sun will no longer shine
colors will fade quickly
when the city will close its gate
many people remain outside
and those who waited inside
with terror in their minds
watch with a sigh all life go down into silence (2x)
… If the fears reign / …

NL (full text The City) – volledige tekst “De stad” van Bob De Pooter :

Al de stad heur poort ga sluiten
met gordijnen veur de ruiten
gaat de zon niet langer schijnen
zullen kleuren rap verdwijnen
als de stad heur poort ga sluiten
blijven er veel mensen buiten
en die binnen bleven wachten
met de schrik in hun gedachten
zien alt leven stil verzinken met ne zucht (2x)
Als de angsten gaan regeren
ons gelijk hier gaat primeren
eigen bloed en volk gaan wegen
gade dander buiten vegen
als de angsten gaan regeren
gade schoonheid rap negeren

tin can pinhole photography

HOLLAND. Rotterdam. September 11, 2011. Taking a pinhole photo of the Erasmus bridge, using a pinhole in a tin can loaded with photographic paper. Darkroom work was done in the SKVR BeeldFabriek – that also supplied the custom made tin can pinhole cameras.
Using a 2nd camera the process was captured for the 1 minute film “tin can pinhole photo”, with original sound and added music called ‘Sonatina Piccola’ (Jan Masséus, composer) performed by the nearby playing Nederlands Jeugd Accordeon Orkest directed by Marc Belder – during this ’24 uur cultuur’ Rotterdam event.
