Lost in Transition • @1MEMO 20250509

Jun 21, 2007, I started pioneering at YouTube, creating Channel012.
The first YouTube video ‘Fire Breather’ was shot at a 4:3 aspect ratio (640×480 pixels) and produced at a 16:9 aspect ratio with black bars for my first YouTube upload on Dec 30, 2007.

Unlisted ‘Fire Breather • 2nd Edition’

Next a 2nd edition of ‘Fire Breather’ was produced at the original 4:3 aspect ratio, and uploaded the next month, Jan 18, 2008.
YouTube displayed that 2nd edition at a higher quality. Sometime later though I decided to change visibility of that 2nd edition to ‘unlisted’ in order to preserve and favor the 1st edition views count.

Lost Forgotten Film

More recently that forgotten unlisted 2nd edition video appeared to be lost somehow…until I learned today that YouTube had changed visibility in 2021 of all unlisted videos uploaded before 2017 to ‘private’ automatically for security reasons with a worldwide system change.

Today I changed visibility at YouTube of that 2nd edition (video shown above) to public.

‘Entartete Art’ 1935 – Coleman Hawkins & Leo de la Fuente in Holland | 20231123

‘Entartete Art’ 1935 – Coleman Hawkins & Leo de la Fuente in Holland

American saxophonist Coleman Hawkins announces and plays – accompanied by Leo de la Fuente on piano – on his tenor saxophone ‘I wished that I were twins’.

In 1934, Coleman Hawkins left the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra and Amerika, moved to Europe, and joined the Jack Hylton Orchestra in England. Hylton and his band made regular ‘continental’ tours, and started another European tour January 1935 accompanied by Coleman Hawkins in Holland. At the end of January 1935 Hawkins joins the dutch band The Rambers … for 8 days … because Hawkins was denied entry to Germany because of his race, while Hylton and his band continued their tour without him and play for eight days at the Berlin Philharmonic Hall.

To end this special week with Hawkins well, the bandleader of The Ramblers – Theo Uden Masman – arranged with Decca for recordings 4 february 1935 in Pulchri Studio in The Hague, Holland, including this : I wish I were twins…that was also recorded on film by Polygoon (Polygoontoon) for the dutch cinema news for next week .

Coleman Hawkins is accomponied here on film by the dutch jazz pioneer Leo de la Fuente on piano , playing ‘I wished that I were twins’ . After the recordings, Hawkins moves further into Europe.

Leo – Leonard Henriques – de la Fuente, who was born Jewish in Amsterdam 28 March 1902, was deported by the nazi’s to Auschwitz on 2 November 1942, and died 30 April 1944 ‘somewhere in Mid Europe’.

Scout Bambi | Simon Gronowski

Behind the scenes iphone shots by Sonja van der Burg of our filming Simon Gronowski for the documentary film project ‘Miracles’.

Simon Gronowski — once a little scout nicknamed “Bambi” (totem name early 1940s) — telling his story in ‘Simon reads his story’ at the public performance of authors during the event ‘Voices in the Museum’, interviewed by Marjan Verplancke, in the holocaust museum Kazerne Dossin in Mechelen, Belgium, December 2017.

Other ‘voices’ filmed that weekend: Nina Landau presenting her short film ‘Lon’ (to which I could gladly contribute a little something), and Esther Naschelski reading from her biography – as shown in the film ‘Esther’s Puzzle’ (link below) .

I am not at war | KONTRARIE

‘I am not at war’ performed by solidarity choir KONTRARIE at the 20th commemoration of Transport XX on 21 April 2013 in Boortmeerbeek, Belgium. Theme this 20th commemoration : “In the track of Transport XX after 70 years”. Dutch: 20e herdenking – “In het spoor van Transport XX na 70 jaar”.

With a roaring special contribution by a helicopter 😉

I am not at war with anyone
I am not at war with anyone
Go away warplanes
You bring fear and shame
I am not at war with anyone

I give my love to Iraq, and to America
I give my love to Israel, and to Palestine
We could live as one
Between the sea and sun
I am not at war with anyone

I don’t need to be friends with everyone
But I’d like to live in peace with everyone
This rush to war is wrong
And so I sing this song
I am not at war with anyone
I am not at war with anyone

I am not at war with anyone
I am not at war with anyone
Go away warplanes
You bring fear and shame
I am not at war with anyone
I am not at war with anyone

Poetic Resistance ~ Nadia Vadori Gauthier

Poetic Resistance ~ Book “Danser Résister” .
One minute of dance a day by Nadia Vadori-Gauthier :

“I live in Paris. On January 7, 2015, the evening of the Charlie Hebdo attack, I was deeply shaken. I came up with the project One Minute of Dance Every Day to manifest a sensitive and poetic presence in the world and connect heterogeneous intensities by putting myself into play, alone or in relation to others. I wanted to assign myself a daily action, small but concrete and reiterated, coherent with my beliefs and working towards a living poetry, while at the same time creating a distinct, discrete work of art (the reason I number my dances).
This single minute requires hours of work each day. Until I complete it, it haunts me. Once it’s out there, I let go of all other potential minutes for the rest of the day.” — Quote from leprixdelessence.net .
