Diorama • Sally & Nelly Story, Episode #1 • French film with English subtitles.

English text below – Français au bas

Renée Cassin , goddaughter of Nelly Quintart , shows Michel van der Burg the miniature diorama she made in a glass showcase, with scenes of Belgian Resistance fighter Nelly Quintart hiding the Jewish Frankenthal family (Esther, Adolphe, and daughter Sally) at her place, 13 Rue Marie-Thérèse in Brussels, from September 1942 until the liberation in 1944, and a scene with the ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ medal for Nelly — recommended by Sally Frankenthal to Yad Vashem in the 1990s.
The film also features the original briefcase used by Nelly to secretly buy the daily food for all from multiple grocery stores.

Recorded April 11, 2025, in Guesthouse Marie-Thérèse – across the street of that historical site — on our way to the installation ceremony of the Sally Frankenthal Stolperstein, a stumbling stone to recall passers-by to the story of Sally & Nelly.

Encounter TRANSPORT XX … | 20240228

TRANSPORT XX — installation Brussels
February 28th, 2009, Brussels. Day two, of my encounter with the TRANSPORT XX installation outside in the Royal park in Brussels, that presented 1200 photographic portraits of Jews deported from Malines (Belgium) to Auschwitz in 1943. One of the stills and establising video shots made that Saturday morning after finishing long take video recordings of the installation, during a walk from our hotel in the Leopold (European) Quarter via the Royal park direction the historic centre of Brussels. That weekend break in Brussels, today 15 years ago, turned out to be a turning point in my life. Two months later – April 19, 2009 – the film TRANSPORT XX — installation Brussels was published.
