#13 Most Viewed Today Musicians on YouTube featuring Duo Agua Azul
I joined YouTube with Channel012 on June 20, 2007 , soon after YouTube was purchased by Google late 2006 . My first public video was uploaded Dec 30, 2007 : ‘Fire Breather’.
The 2nd video was a high quality video : “Tiroler Fasnacht 2008 in Igls”. Traditional carnival in the streets in Austria. This was uploaded May 7, 2008.
Some days later I was contacted by Maybelline — a friend from the early 1970s when we both studied biology at Leiden University in Holland, with whom I had not had any contact since — who was wondering whether it was me ‘the Michel of the biology study, after I had left a comment signed ‘Michel’ at her YouTube channel (@maybellinebroek) with music videos.
I learned she had just started the duo Agua Azul together with pianist Thijmen Vonk, with already about 16 performances lined up, one just completed , and an upcoming talent show in theater Agnietenhof in Tiel, Holland, next Friday 16 May, 2008. Just in time, the afternoon before that talent show, we agreed I’d film the show, and a few hours before the performance, I received the stage setup. Unfortunately, I was late for the opening number… and then filming… and same night editing. Next day rushes were checked, and the evening of May 19 the uploads of 4 of the songs at Maybelline’s channel succeeded — just in time for a screening the next morning for an important venue, to determine if they want to book Agua Azul in Cultuurhuis Doorn…which they did.
Maybelline’s YouTube channel ranked #13 Most Viewed Today Musicians in the Netherlands within the first two days after uploading our Agua Azul videos. Channel ranking was #58 in Most Viewed (This Week) Musicians in the Netherlands – a week after uploading (20080526).

More recently, I uploaded remastered editions of those videos , and added a new video too, a video of the interview with Agua Azul on that “Open Podium” in the Agnietenhof Theatre in Tiel , Holland on Friday 16 May, 2008.

#24 Most Viewed Today on YouTube • TRANSPORT XX – installation Brussels
My ‘Channel 012’ ranked the #24 Most Viewed Today YouTube channel in the Netherlands on the first day after uploading the captivating video Transport XX . The next day again it reached #23 Most Viewed Today.
Channel012 ranking was #68 in Most Viewed (This Week) , a week after uploading Transport XX.
Google purchased YouTube late 2006. I started late 2007, with a first upload. Between ~ 2007-2011 channel pages were equipped with view counters, bulletin boards, and were awarded badges for various rank-based achievements, such as ” “#68 – Most Viewed (This Week)”. The term “gurus” on YouTube referred to a specific category of content creators who focused on education. This category helped establish YouTube as a platform for influencers. You could change your account type to eg. Director, Comedian, Musician.
The film was uploaded close to midnight April 19th, 2009, registered by YouTube as April 20th, 2009. This short documentary is a video impression (2009) of the confrontation of passers-by with the TRANSPORT XX installation in Brussels, that presented photographic portraits of 1,200 of the 1,631 Jewish prisoners deported with the 20th train convoy to Auschwitz , the night of April 19th in 1943. Half an hour after the departure of this transport XX three young Belgians from Brussels, Youra Livschitz, Jean Franklemon and Robert Maistriau stopped the train between Boortmeerbeek and Haacht, opened one of the cars and liberated 17 prisoners. Later before the train reaches the German border over 200 other prisoners decide to attempt to escape and also jump out of the cars. This was the only documented attack on a death train during the Holocaust.

Excellent, to see the video work Tulip Bulbs War Food Holland 1944-1945 (Ref. 1) helping the ARTE European public service channel broadcasting next week all over Europe an excellent documentary about the cultural legacy of tulips in Holland , featured in the daily French/German TV show ‘Invitation au Voyage / Stadt Land Kunst.’
The French (FR) edition ‘Aux Pays-Bas, les tulipes de la prospérité’ is broadcast on Arte Tuesday 7 Nov. 2023 at 17:20 , and 8 Nov. at 8:40. The German (DE) edition ‘In den Niederlanden: Blühender Wohlstand’ 7 Nov. 2023 at 13:25 and 8 Nov. at 08:10 .

Though , I generally do not produce / upload videos aiming for views only — still 1.000.000 views feels good. First upload starting Channel 012 – a vlog – was December 2007. The first five to six years of Channel 012 I generally only uploaded once in a while what I considered to be ‘popular’ work .. events — and, what I considered ‘serious’ or not-popular was uploaded on Vimeo only, and once in a while also uploaded on a second YouTube channel — called iClip, and reserved fir such work — or kept unlisted for years at Channel 012. Only some 7 years ago I decided to present all via YouTube Channel 012. I archived iClip some years ago.
Crossing the million views mark today of ‘Channel 012’ — YouTube.Com/Channel012 .
In addition – not included in this count here – another around 200.000 YouTube views were counted for work in collaboration on other channels. Like 135K currently for the documentary film Transport XX to Auschwitz at @RBloomProductions .
